Special education law continues to encourage informal and speedy resolution of problems that arise between school districts and parents of children in need of special education services. Mediation is now an available option. This early dispute resolution process is intended to diffuse and resolve disagreements before they reach a level requiring a formal process.
Mediation is a voluntary, confidential process that allows parties to resolve disputes without the stress and formality of a formal due process hearing. An impartial mediator helps the parties to express their views and positions and to understand the other’s views and positions. The mediator’s role is to facilitate discussion and help parties reach an agreement.
This course will teach you how to provide IEP Mediation Services through your existing practice or as a stand alone service. Legal and mental health professionals are ideally suited for this training.
