Faculty and Staff
The dedicated individuals that make up our diverse faculty at Conflict Resolution Training are both local and national professionals in their respective fields and offer students valuable, real-world experience that is second to none. Their broad range of knowledge and expertise is what sets us apart from the rest and continues to make Conflict Resolution Training a leader in mediation training.
Our faculty is made up of judges, mediators, business consultants, tax and financial specialists as well as legal experts in family law, business law and bankruptcy law. While their backgrounds may be varied, each faculty member shares the same deep commitment to student success and offers support to student mediators both during their time in our seminars as well as after graduation.
Our staff is dedicated to providing our students with customer service that is second to none. From registration to certification, our faculty members are committed to the educational enrichment of each and every student. Our staff members continually go above and beyond the call of duty, resulting in student mediators who are not only certified on paper, but dynamic mediators who leave our seminars inspired to promote and practice the art of mediation with the greatest level of skill and effectiveness.

Susan Deveney has been a business and divorce mediator and an attorney in private practice since 1987. She has acted as mediator, facilitator or neutral in thousands of cases and has a success rate of more than 97% in reaching complete agreement among disputing parties in her cases.
Ms. Deveney has summa cum laude undergraduate dual degrees in Psychology and Political Science, is a 1986 graduate of Suffolk University Law School and a 1995 graduate of the Roger Williams University Mediation Training Program. Ms. Deveney has been a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Bar Association on matters of employment discrimination, has appeared on national and local television talk shows to speak about cases of notoriety in which she has been involved, has lobbied for and received a substantial grant for developing conflict resolution programs in school grades K through 12 and has participated in numerous speaking engagements. She is currently working with the American Association of Mediators to develop a national mediator and mediation training certification program. Susan also chairs the Board of Directors of the American Association of Mediators.
Ms. Deveney brings a wealth of practical, real world, nuts and bolts instruction to every student she trains. Mixing her compassion for parties in conflict, her expertise and talent in negotiation, mediation and teaching, a high level of energy and a healthy dose of humor, Ms. Deveney is the most highly sought-after mediation instructor in the United States. Her determination to provide the best mediation training for every student in every class is evident in the praise and testimonials her students provide.
Michael Hagopian is a graduate of Syracuse University (B.A. Economics) and the University of Bridgeport School of Law (JD). He is admitted to practice law before all State and Federal Courts of the State of Rhode Island and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as well as the United States First Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. Michael has extensive legal experience in domestic relations law, business law and civil litigation. In addition to service as a staff attorney in public and private law offices, Michael managed a private law office for 15 years. Michael is a member of the faculty for Becker CPA Review and frequently lectures on various business law topics. Currently, Michael is an attorney with the Law Office of Susan Deveney and is Corporate Counsel for Conflict Resolution Training, Inc. Michael also sits on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Mediators.
Jane F. Howlett, is an attorney licensed to practice law before all courts in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She is a graduate of Providence College and the University of Bridgeport Law School. She is engaged in the general practice of law, including matters in family and domestic relations law, child custody, personal injury, bankruptcy and criminal law. In addition to the practice of law, Attorney Howlett is active in the Rhode Island Bar Association and has served as Chairperson of the Family Court Bench/Bar Committee and the House of Delegates. Attorney Howlett also serves as the Associate Municipal Court Judge in the Town of Bristol, Rhode Island.
Michael DiChiro, Jr., is 1983 graduate of Boston College where he graduated Suma Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Degree majoring in Political Science and minoring in Italian studies.
He is a 1986 graduate of Suffolk Law School, Cum Laude. During his law school studies, he was the Research Assistant for Professor Thomas Lambert, the author of Tom on Torts. Since 1986 Mr. DiChiro has been self-employed as an attorney in the general practice of law, including matters in family and domestic relations law, child custody, personal injury and criminal law.
In 1990 he was appointed as a Municipal Court Judge in the Town of Johnston where he adjudicates a variety of municipal cases.
Mr. DiChiro is also a Commissioner on the Narragansett Bay Commission, serving on the Finance Committee since 1992.
Adam Waitkevich is a Certified Financial Planner™, Certified Divorce Financial Analyst™ and the Principal and Founder of Divorce Financial Solutions , LLC. As a CDFA™, Adam helps divorcing individuals and couples identify and better understand potential financial pitfalls within their proposed settlement agreements. Adams consulting work as a CDFA™ brings greater financial clarity around divorce and is a productive complement to divorce mediation, litigation and the collaborative divorce process as well. Adam is a member of the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council and he contributes regularly to the Conflict Resolution Training courses and curriculum. He maintains offices in Grafton and Waltham, MA.
Susan Iannitelli is an attorney who practices both family and criminal law in the trial and appellate courts of Rhode Island. She has been a member of the Rhode Island Bar since 1985 and previously a member of the State Bar associations of Oregon and Georgia. She is a graduate of Wheaton College, Norton, MA (1974) and Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, Macon, GA (1977).
Attorney Iannitelli is often called upon by the Supreme Court of the State of Rhode Island to review and argue appeals in high profile cases.
Attorney Berman attended Suffolk University Law School in Boston, Massachusetts and undergraduate college at the University of Connecticut. While attending the University of Connecticut, Attorney Berman was active in the Connecticut Public Interest Research Group where she was elected as legislative liaison for the state of Connecticut.
In 1998, she served as the Assistant Finance Director for former Massachusetts State Representative Marjorie Clapprood's Congressional campaign in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2001, Attorney Berman was elected as a delegate for the Massachusetts Democratic Political Convention.
She is currently a member of the New Haven County Bar Association and the Connecticut Bar Association (Family Law Section). Since 2004, Attorney Berman has provided pro bono services to clients through the Connecticut Pro Bono Network.
During her legal career, Attorney Berman has been gained success inside and outside of the courtroom. Some of her accomplishments include:
• Identified as a New England Rising Star in the 2011 New England Super Lawyers publication.
• Highlighted by the Connecticut Law Tribune in a Special Section entitled Women in the Law , September, 2010.
• Authored the book The Ultimate Guide to Solo and Small Firm Success , LawFirst Publishing 2009.
• In 2010, tried and won the case of Soderberg v. Soderberg , which garnered national attention and debate about whether a child can successfully sue a parent for non-payment of college tuition.
She is admitted to practice law in Connecticut and the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut.
Lisa Gresham is a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst and founder of Equitable Divorce Solutions, LLC. Ms. Gresham has over 25 years of experience in the financial and investment industry. Since 2003, she has focused her practice solely on the complex financial issues specific to divorce. She works with individuals, attorneys, mediators and collaborative professionals to navigate through all stages of the divorce process. As a financial professional, Ms. Gresham’s services include lifestyle and needs analysis, asset valuation, and settlement negotiation and evaluation. She focuses on budgeting, evaluating tax and cash flow implications with possible settlement scenarios and long term projections in order to help her clients achieve financial independence and stability.
Ms. Gresham is trained in Interdisciplinary Collaborative Divorce and is a member of the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, American Bar Association, Connecticut Counsel for Divorce Mediation & Family Dispute Resolution, Institute for Divorce Financial Analysts, and Divorce Solutions of Connecticut. She is also the Co-Director of the Connecticut Chapter for the Association of Divorce Financial Planners, and is active on the Board of Directors for the Women & Family Life Center, in Guilford, Connecticut.
June D. Zellers is a retired attorney and former owner of Common Ground Mediation Services in Lewiston, Maine. She currently serves on the CADRES Professional Development Team and is the co-author of Choice Points: The Guide to Peer Consultation for Mediators. She is an adjunct faculty member at the University of Southern Maine, and also teaches the Kids First Program for divorcing parents in various locations.
Jack Cacchiotti is a partner in the Certified Public Accounting firm of Restivo Monacelli LLP. He has been practicing public accounting for the past 20 years and prior to that was Divisional Controller for several divisions of a NASDAQ publicly traded company. Besides business valuation and litigation support, Jack concentrates his efforts in assisting clients with mergers and acquisitions as well as obtaining financing and management consulting.
As partner in charge of business valuation and litigation support, Jack holds the designation Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV), an accreditation that recognizes special training, testing and qualification in business valuation by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). Additionally, he holds the designation Certified Valuation Analyst (CVA), an accreditation that recognizes special training and qualification in business valuation and adherence to the standards established by the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA).
Jack has performed business valuations for numerous purposes including estate planning and gifting, divorce litigation, C Corporation to S Corporation conversions, mergers and acquisitions, bank financing, buy-sell agreements, shareholder disputes, various employee stock ownership plans, and purchase price allocations under FASB 141. He has also lectured at various seminars sponsored by the Rhode Island Bar Association.
